Films and Movies in APA

Format:

Producer, A. A. (Producer) & Director, B. B. (Director). (Year). Title of the motion picture [Description]. Production company.

Example:

Gladstone, B. & Barney, M. (Producers). (2003). Cremaster 3. / The Order [Film]. Palm Studios.


Format for a Web-based Movie:

Lastname, F. M. (Director). (Year). Title of work [Description]. Streaming Service. URL

Example:

Orlowski, J. (Director). (2020). The Social Dilemma [Movie]. Netflix. https://www.netflix.com/watch/81254224

Television Shows in APA

Format for an Episode:

Writer, W. W. (Writer), & Director, D. D. (Director). (Original air date). Title of episode (Season number, Episode number) [TV series episode]. In P. Executive Producer (Executive Producer), Series title. Production company(s).

Example:

Bokenkamp, J., Sussman, A. (Writers), & Adelson, S. A. (Director). (2014, October 20). The Front (No. 74) (Season 2, Episode 5) [TV series episode]. In J. Bokenkamp, J. Davis, J. Eisendrath, & J. Fox (Executive Producers), The Blacklist. Davis Entertainment; Universal Television; Sony Pictures Television.


Format for a TV Series:

Executive Producer, P. P. (Executive Producer). (Date range of release). Title of series [TV series]. Production company(s).

Example:

Favreau, J., Filoni, D., Kennedy, K., & Wilson, C. (Executive Producers). (2019-2020). The Mandalorian [TV series]. Fairview Entertainment; Golem Creations; Lucasfilm; Walt Disney Studios.   

Films and Movies in MLA

Format:

Title of movie. Directed by First Lastname, screenplay by First Lastname, performances by First Last, First Last and First Last, Studio or Distributor, Year.

Example:

The Lion King. Directed by Jon Favreau, screenplay by Jeff Nathanson, performances by Donald Glover, Beyonce, and Seth Rogen, Walt Disney Pictures, 2019.  


Format:

If citing a director or a specific performer -

Lastname, First, title of person. Title of movie. Studio, Year.

Example:

Glover, Donald, actor. The Lion King. Walt Disney Pictures, 2019.


Format for a Web-based Movie:

Title of movie. Directed by First Lastname, performances by First Lastname, Studio or Distributor, Year. Streaming service, URL.

Example:

The Theory of Everything. Directed by James Marsh, performances by Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, Working Title Films, 2014. Netflix,  https://www.netflix.com/watch/80000644. 

Television Shows in MLA

Format for an Episode:

"Title of Episode." Name of series or program, season number, episode number, Network name, Date of broadcast. Streaming service, URL.

Example:

"We the People." The Practice, season 8, episode 1, ABC, 28 Sept. 2003. Hulu, https://www.hulu.com/watch/83228d00-6a3a-4eda-808f-488b9219968b.


Format for an entire TV series:

Lastname, First, creator. Title of series. Production company, Date.

Example:

Kelley, David E., creator. The Practice. David E. Kelley Productions and Daydreamers Entertainment Inc., 2004.

 

YouTube Videos

IN MLA

Format:

Lastname, First if different from uploader. "Title of Video." Site Name, uploaded by name, date of upload, URL.  

Example:

"Boise State University Honors College." YouTube, uploaded by boisestatefoundation, 9, Feb. 2009,  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bwvoaj-h_40.


IN APA

Format:

Person or group who uploaded video. (Year, Month Date). Title of the video [Video file]. Website host. URL

Example:

Boisestatefoundation. (2009, February 9)
     Boise State  University Honors
     College.
[Video file]. Youtube. 
     http://www.youtube.com/watch?
     v=Bwvoaj-h_40 

In-Text Citations

For MLA

Provide the first item in the Works Cited entry that corresponds to the citation (e.g. "title of episode", title of movie) and timestamp of quotation. If no direct quote, then the timestamp is not required.

  • (The Lion King 00:06:44-45)
  • ("We the People" 00:05:45-47)
  • (The Theory of Everything)

For APA

Provide the first name listed in the Works Cited entry corresponding to the citation, the date, and timestamp of quotation. If no direct quote, then the timestamp is not required.
