by Kristi Schirrmacher on November 21st, 2024 | 0 Comments

OverDrive, creator of the Libby App, recently published the Libby Privacy Statement. This statement specifically describes data privacy and security practices for Libby users. Libby is the reading app that was launched by OverDrive in 2017 and allows users to easily browse titles, checkout and download books, and enjoy content on the go.

The Libby Privacy Statement supplements the overarching OverDrive Privacy Policy that covers all OverDrive services, including Libby, Kanopy, Sora, and TeachingBooks. OverDrive states, "We have also added a new “Diagnostics and Analytics” section to the Libby menu, where users can learn more about our practices and make their own decisions about what to share. OverDrive believes that every user should be able to opt out of non-essential data collection, like app feature-usage analytics. When we begin to collect app analytics data in Libby, in accordance with industry best practices, it will be minimal, anonymous, and optional."

The Libby Privacy Statement and Diagnostics & Analytics information can also be found in the Libby Menu when you access Libby to browse Boise State Libby Content.

Albertsons Library Collection News

Collection Strategy

With the successful adoption of the student library materials and subscription fees, Albertsons Library has the amazing opportunity to review our collections and find areas that need improvement and strategic growth. Heather Grevatt, Marlena Hooyboer, and Mary Aagard formed a working group to create collection development strategies that use multiple sources of data. The data includes:

  • Choreo Insights library holdings and print retention commitments
  • comparison to institutional and IPEDS peers
  • reviewing the average age of the materials
  • vendor packages and materials lists
  • Voyager data; required course materials
  • growth in academic programs and graduation rates across disciplines

The different sources of data will be packaged into subject areas for librarians and library liaisons to build collection lists for potential purchase and to identify areas of further development. This initiative is in addition to work we are doing with the Bronco Shop and \their textbook team to reduce textbook costs for students. The working group will share more to get feedback and to test the methodology. Albertsons Library is very excited about the opportunity to provide more current and relevant resources to our students.

As work is underway to create a strategic path for collection development, we are currently evaluating resources that may be beneficial to our campus community. If there are resources you would like to suggest, please complete the Purchase Request Form to submit the resource for consideration. The form can be used to submit purchase requests or quotes for books, e-books, physical media, streaming media, serials, or databases that the library does not own. Please see below for a list of new resources we added to our collections in fiscal 2024, as well as resources that will be cancelled due to low use.
