Virtual Reality

How to use the Virutal Reality Headsets and games at the VR Station.

Trouble Shooting

Oculus occasionally has some issues, so here is some standard things to do for troubleshooting.

Nothing showing up on screen?

  • Make sure all cords are plugged in correctly
  • Make sure the Oculus App is open
  • If you can still hear sound but see only a black screen: have an administrator come and run the Oculus Setup Wizard, they will need to select fix Oculus.
    • This error usually only occurs when switching what headset is hooked up to which pc

Game or Menu Appearing Off in the Distance/ Not in Front of You?

  • Press the Menu Button on the Right Controller, on the menu that pops up hit 'Reset View'

Touch Controller Not Connecting?

  • Press the Menu and Upper Button like during initial setup
  • Batteries could also be dead, take them out and put fresh ones in!

How to Slide the Battery Cover off to replace the Battery

  • Hold the Touch Controller with the side that has no button facing up
  • Place your thumb towards the top and firmly slide it down
  • This should open the panel and then you can swap the batteries out

Note: the Battery cover is magnetized to stay on and can feel like its not budging, try changing the angle your pushing at and try again

Motion Sick?

  • People new to VR should keep their playtime roughly to 30 min at a time
  • Most games will allow for seated play which also reduces motion sickness
  • Stop playing as soon as you feel sick

Adjust the volume?

  • The Oculus volume is not the Windows Volume, you have to go into devices and adjust the volume there

Game not loading?

  • Press the home button, click the 'Quit Game', and try reloading the game again
  • If the game continues not to load, Quit the Oculus App and try opening it again
  • If neither of the above work, contact LCIS or a Lab Tech for assisstance

Connecting to your headset

If you are using the Oculus Rift, you do not have to worry about using Air Link however if you are trying to connect a different headset such as an Quest 2 and don't have a cable then this will apply to you. Air Link will be disabled if the headset is connected via cable to the desktop. This is because Cable Link overrides Air Link.

  • To connect via Air Link you must make sure the headset is connected to the same wifi as the desktop you are trying to connect to (in our case it would be Eduroam).
  • From there, selecting Air Link in the menu should allow the desktop to pop up and be connected.
  • To connect via Cable (for Rift) make sure the USB and HDMI cable are plugged in on both side
  • To connect via Cable (for non Rift headsets)  Grab a USB-C cable and plug it into the headset and desktop
