Encyclopedia of prehistory - edited by Peter N. Peregrine and Melvin Ember.
Call Number: GN710 .E53 2001
This 9-volume set was prepared and published in conjunction with the Human Relation Area Files at Yale University. Each volume is devoted to a particular part of the world:. Africa, Arctic & Subarctic, East Asia and Oceania, Europe, Middle America, North America, South America, South and Southwest Asia.
The goal is to provide basic information on all archaeologically known cultures, covering the entire world and all of prehistory. The encyclopedia is organized according to "major traditions," here defined as a group of populations sharing similar subsistence practices, technology, and forms of sociopolitical organization, which are spatially contiguous over a large area, and endure for a relatively long period of time.
Entries are one of three types: (1) major traditions; (2) regional subtraditions; and (3) entries for specific sites. Index in v. 9.
