Top Article Databases for Public Administration

Following are the databases I go to most often when I help Public Administration graduate students. If you need to do a complete literature review or are having trouble finding materials, try some of the resources on the Articles by Topic/Type page.

  • ABI/Inform Complete
"Business, Management and Trade - scholarly and trade journal articles, dissertations, market reports, industry reports, business cases and global and trade news."
  • Business Source Premier
This key international business database provides information from all business disciplines, including public administration.
  • Google Scholar
This web search engine searches the full-text of articles, websites, technical reports, pre-prints, and books that are deemed scholarly in nature. Set it up to check the BSU library in "Scholar Preferences."
  • JSTOR
Core, scholarly journals in public policy are indexed and provided full-text; not a current issues' database, there is typically a gap from 3-5 years between the most recently published issues and "JSTOR available" titles.

Useful Library Services

  • find it ab Boise State Use the "find it" button from one of our 200+ article databases to connect you to  the electronic text of the article you need.

  • Journals search is the easiest way to search for a specific journal. Results will be listed by dates available in each database.

  • WorldCat Local (the search box on the top left and on the Library Homepage) is the library catalog. Search for books, DVDs, etc. at BSU and libraries around the world. Also searches some article databases - click Find It to retrieve an article.

  • E-books - read e-Books online or download to a device from anywhere. To find ebooks, search Worldcat Local for your topic and select eBook from the format list on the left side of the results page.

  • Interlibrary Loan will obtain books or articles that we don't own. This free service takes 1-3 business days for articles and about a week for books. If you prefer an e-book (usually faster), mention that in the notes.

  • On Shelf Hold is a way to request that materials be retrieved and held for you at the Circulation Desk within 3-4 hours.

  • EndNote Web is a tool that lets you keep track of your research and generate a list of references in any format.

  • More! Visit the library homepage to find out how we can support your learning and research needs. If you have questions, just ask! We love to hear from you.
