WRDS - Wharton Research Data Services

WRDS is a powerful research platform that provides access to over 250 terabytes of data across disciplines including Accounting, Banking, Economics, Finance, ESG, and Statistics.  Flexible data delivery options include a web query method, the WRDS Cloud for executing research and strategy development, and the WRDS client server using PCSAS, Matlab, Python and R.

Getting Started

Current Boise State University faculty, staff, and students may register for a WRDS account:

• Visit the WRDS Register/Log-in Page
• Select Boise State University as your "Institution"
• Choose your "Affiliation" 
  • Undergraduate students should register as "Masters Student"
• ​Choose a username
• You must use a valid Boise State email when registering

​Allow up to 1 business day for your account to be fully activated.  You will receive a confirmation email with a link to set up your password once your account is ready.  

Class Access

If you would like to use WRDS with a full class of students you may:

1) Request a class username and password that will expire at the end of the term.  Contact your library liaison and provide the course name, course number, the lead faculty's name, and what term you will need access (e.g. Spring 2019).  Please allow 2 business days for the account to be set up.

This option may have limited work space for saving and anything saved may be changed by anyone with the username and password.  This is ideal for faculty who want students to follow along during class, but do not expect that they will be doing any original or unique research. 

OR

2) Ask all students to register for an individual account via the log-in process above.  Remind students about allowing at least 1 business day to have their account activated.

Account Transfers

If you have a WRDS account from a previous institution you can request that your existing account, along with all of your files and directories be moved to your new institution.  Visit the Account Transfer page to request access.

*Note: If Boise State does not subscribe to a particular dataset, transferring an account will not provide access
