Theatre research
Here are some great places to start your research. To search all of these databases at once, try the Theatre Arts Quick Search.
- JSTOR A great source of scholarly articles.
- Literature Resource Center An excellent starting point for information about an author or work. Better for classic or well-known topics.
- North American Indian Drama Contains full text of plays from early 1900s to present.
- Oxford Reference Online: Performing Arts Search reference e-books for introductory information about your topic.
- Project Muse For scholarly articles and criticism.
- ProQuest Central A great resource to search for articles and reviews published in newspapers, magazines, and journals, as well as a variety of other types of articles.
Historical resources
These resources will provide you with historical play reviews, photos, and other information.
- Historical New York Times View scans of original articles in the NYT from 1851 through 2006.
- Historical Los Angeles Times Search full page and article images from The Los Angeles Times (1881-1986).
- ARTstor Locate primary images of art, sculpture, furniture, clothing, and other materials held at museums and notable collections.
New plays
We frequently purchase plays from these companies. If you see something published by one of them (or anything at all, really!) that you think the library should own, just drop me a line.
