Definition

1. The study or consideration of the soul or spirit. Cf. PNEUMATOLOGY n. 1. Now rare (in later use chiefly in etymologizing contexts).

2. a. The scientific study of the nature, functioning, and development of the human mind, including the faculties of reason, emotion, perception, communication, etc.; the branch of science that deals with the (human or animal) mind as an entity and in its relationship to the body and to the environmental or social context, based on observation of the behaviour of individuals or groups of individuals in particular (ordinary or experimentally controlled) circumstances.
Freq. with preceding distinguishing word, as animal, child, comparative, experimental, folk, social psychology, etc.: for established compounds see the first element.

b. The psychological aspects of an event, activity, phenomenon, etc., esp. considered as a subject for study.

c. The psychological outlook or set of mental characteristics of an individual or group.

d. Understanding of or insight into the psychological motivation of human behaviour; the practical implementation of this in interactions with others.

PsycARTICLES
From the American Psychological Association (APA), PscyARTICLES is a definitive source of full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology. The database contains more than 134,000 articles from 63 journals - 50 published by the APA and its imprint, the Educational Publishing Foundation (EPF) - and 13 from allied organizations. It includes all journal articles, book reviews, letters to the editor, and errata from each journal. Coverage spans 1894 to present; nearly all APA journals go back to Volume 1, Issue 1.  

PsycINFO
This abstracting service covers psychology and related fields from 1887 to current; approximately 1300 international journals are indexed, as well as over 1500 books and book chapters.

Mental measurements yearbook
Produced by the Buros Institute at the University of Nebraska, the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) provides users with a comprehensive guide to over 2,000 contemporary testing instruments. First published by Oscar K. Buros, the MMY series allows users to make knowledgeable judgments and informed selection decisions about the increasingly complex world of testing. MMY provides coverage from Volume 9 to the present.

SAGE publishes more than 500 journals in Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, Technology and Medicine. 

Proquest Digital Dissertations
Covering doctoral dissertations and masters’ theses, this database offers 24 page previews of 1997 and newer dissertations; older citations date to 1861. Full text is available for thousands.

JSTOR

Cross-discipline scholarly database with full-text access

Education Full Text
Indexes 550 journals of interest to the educational and related communities; unique titles in this index are not covered by ERIC. Full text of selected titles is available back to 1996.

ERIC via FirstSearch (Education)
The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC), sponsored by the Department of Education, includes 16 topical clearinghouses for ERIC documents and an abstracting service that catalogs journal articles from 980 international journals.
