Basics
EndNote Web is a bibliographic software that helps create libraries, or collections, of research resources and citations. It can also help to build bibliographies and citations. It is the portable web version of EndNote Desktop and does have the capabilty to work with existing EndNote Desktop libraries. For full information on getting started with EndNote Web, click the link below!
Note: You must log into your EndNote Web account at least once every 6 months for it to remain active!

A two page guide to getting started with EndNote Web - Web of Science (WoS) Link to Web of Science database where you must initially set up your EndNote account. Note the MY ENDNOTE WEB link at the top of the landing page.
- My EndNote Web Login to your library from here after initial registration.
Filters
EndNote Web uses filters to import references from databases. EndNote Web has a long list of import filters including unique ones for most popular databases. Sometimes, however, the filters don't work for various reasons. If you've tried a filter that hasn't worked, we recommend trying "Refman RIS" which tends to work for most. Otherwise, here's a list of filters we know work with particular databases:
| Database | Import Filter |
| All Ebsco | Refman RIS |
| All Gale | Refman RIS |
| Albertsons Library Catalog | EndNote Import |
|
PubMed Note: citations must be displayed in the Database as "MEDLINE" - see further instructions below |
PubMed (NLM) |
PubMed
We've had many questions about exporting/importing from PubMed. It is possible, but there is a quirk.
- After you have searched for and checked the boxes next to the items you want to export, make sure that the "Display" option on the top left is set to "MEDLINE" from the dropdown menu.
- Then from the "Send To" dropdown menu, select "File."
- This will create a .txt file that you can save as you wish.
- Then open your EndNote Web account and import as usual using the "PubMed (NLM)" filter.
Catalog Importing
We've had many questions about importing from the Albertsons Library catalog. It is possible, but has a few quirks.
- Once you have found the items you want with your search, you will need to check the box on the left side of the screen for the items you want to export.
- Then at the bottom of the screen you will need to chose the appropriate radio button ("selected on page" or "selected on all pages").
- Next, from the "Select Download Format" drop down menu, select "EndNote Citation" and then click the "Format for Print / Save" button to the right.
- You will then get a webpage with text records for the items you selected. You will need to go to "File" and select "Save As." Be sure to save it as a text file (.txt).
- Then, you will need to navigate to the "Collect" tab in your EndNote Web account and select "Import References"
- Choose the file you saved from the catalog. Then select "EndNote Import" for your filter and tell it were in your library to save them.
