Periodical Articles and Conference Papers
New developments and current research are often first presented as conference papers and/or periodical articles. You will also find product reviews, descriptions of methodology, or information on innovations in or applications of particular processes, systems and devices. The following are indexes, abstracts or full-text repositories which access this literature:
- Applied Science and Technology Full Text (1983-current w/abstracts since 1994)Best source for finding product reviews and news related (engineering) information. Indexes articles in 800 English-language periodicals. The print version, Applied Science and Technology Index, is available from 1958-2000 at TA 1 .I5, with an earlier title, Industrial Arts Index, available 1913-1957, with some missing issues.
- ASCE Research Library (1983-current)A repository of materials published by the American Society of Civil Engineers, including the full-text articles of journal, magazine, and conference proceedings titles.
- Compendex (1969-current) Compendex covers periodical articles and conference papers for all engineering disciplines. This is a good source for current and past research, with over 5000 serials included. Print version is ENGINEERING INDEX, (1959-2000) located at TA1 .E5.
Compendex, GEOBASE and INSPEC are searched jointly on the Engineering Village Platform. To search only one of the databases, on the advanced search page, remove the check in the box to the left of the database you do not wish to search by clicking on the box. The check mark will be removed and that database will not be searched. - ScienceDirect (1997-current)Contains full-text articles from over 1700 journals published by Elsevier. Although the content is multi-disciplinary, the primary focus is science, engineering and medicine. Table of contents information is available for publication years before 1997.
- TRIS OnlineProduced collaboratively by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Transportation Research Board and the National Transportation Library, this resource identifies published research on transportation topics. Material covered includes magazine and journal articles, conference papers, technical reports and books.
- Web of Science (1900-current)This multi-discplinary index includes article information from approximately 8,500 journals in sciences, engineering, social sciences, arts and humanities. A key feature of this index is the cited reference search, which searches for the articles that have cited a particular author’s work, or a specific article.

- Business Source PremierBusiness and industry topics are covered in this extensive database covering business periodical articles, including full-text from over 2,300 titles.
- ABI/INFORM CompleteThis international business database covers periodical articles and other materials, including full-text from over 2,000 titles.
Article Databases for Legal Issues
Use these indexes for articles on legal issues that may relate to construction management.
- LexisNexis Academic, date variesBesides court cases, this database includes articles from selected law review journals. In the upper left of the screen, select "Legal"; this search defaults to searching law review journals. For court cases, on this page click Federal and State Cases link on the left of the screen.
- WestLaw Campus Research, date variesBesides court cases, this database also includes articles from selected law review journals. On the main screen, first click the tab labeled "Law", then click the box in front of “Journals and Law Reviews” under the category “Encyclopedias and Journals”. Then, from the drop down menu, select either all journals or a specific state.
