Welcome
Welcome to the Resources for Civil Engineering guide. I've listed a few quick resources on this page, with explanations regarding the additional information on pages accessed by the tabs above.
Articles--to find an article on a specific topic, select from these searchable article databases that cover aspects of Civil Engineering.
Example:
Compendex and INSPEC (1969-current)
Compendex covers periodical articles and conference papers for all engineering disciplines; INSPEC covers topics in electrical engineering, physics, computers and control. Search both databases through the Engineering Village 2 platform.
Books--databases that help you identify books of interest.
Example:
Library Catalog
The best place to search for books and media located at the Boise State University Albertsons Library. Includes some electronic and audio books.
Technical Reports--a variety of databases that search technical information produced in technical reports.
Example:
OAIster
Digital resources available include electronic theses and dissertations, technical reports, and eprints.
Patents--search web databases for patents
Example:
US Patent and Trademark Office
Search the full-text of United States patents from 1976 to current at the USPTO's official site. Images of patents from 1790 to current are also available at this site, searchable by Patent Number or by the current Class/ Subclass.
Web Resources--links to specific resources or organizations that are not listed elsewhere in this guide are on this page.
Example:
ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers)
Information about the society is at this website, as well as some history of the profession and a searchable database of ASCE publications.
Web Guides--searchable databases of websites and web pages of engineering interest.
Example:
Intute: Science, Engineering and Technology
An excellent site to begin searching or browsing for engineering information on the Web.
Current Journals--link here to specific magazine and journal titles, most links provide table of contents and full-text access.
Example:
Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering
Handbooks + --selected books that provide brief, introductory information on a topic are listed here.
Example:
Standard Handbook for Civil Engineers, 5th edition -
Call Number: ref TA151 .S8 2004
Frederick S. Merritt’s standard handbook includes equations, formulas, diagrams and descriptive explanations for current civil engineering practice with chapters on structural design, geotechnical investigation and design, highway engineering, water engineering and environmental engineering.
Course Specific--pages that contain information resources specific to a Civil Engineering course are linked here.
Example:
CE 280
Resources relevant to finding information on structural engineering failures and on the lives of notable engineers.
